Location: Tunbridge Wells, Kent

Mark Bloomfield is a Freelance Cameraman with several years experience in filming for both the broadcast and corporate sectors. Mark also owns a video library, www.londonstockfootage.com, which offers royalty free footage of contemporary London.

“The main issue with copyright theft is that it affects ‘the little man’. Most people think that when they use, upload, buy or even watch footage they shouldn’t, the only people they’re affecting are the big corporations and film distribution companies. In fact, they couldn’t be more wrong.”

“It’s usually the smaller companies and individuals in the industry who are affected, as they’re unable to police how their footage is used. A big corporation has the resource to target people pirating material but it’s certainly not something I can afford to do. Instead, I give people unlimited access to use the footage they pay for – it won’t necessarily make me the most money but it does mean that they pay a fair price for fair usage.”

“It surprises me how people can actually watch low quality pirated material, especially when you consider all the time, money and effort spent by people in the industry in ensuring that quality is the best it can possibly be. Just because a window hasn’t been broken or a lock forced, people don’t see copyright infringement as theft, but that’s exactly what it is.”
