It seems like a long time, but in fact FindAnyFilm.com is now just rounding out its first 6 months in operation – which of course makes it's achievement of over 2.5 million visits to date all the more impressive!
We're rather proud of the performance so far, and now we are looking ahead with some big plans for the site over the coming months. Top of the list is a project to double (possibly even triple) the number of films featured on the site.
How are we going to do this?
Some of you will know that one of the biggest hurdles we have had to overcome is the lack of a commonly used unique numbering system for films; each format tends to use its own method, and in some cases even within a format there are different conventions for numbering between different providers. With the lack of a common system, FindAnyFilm.com relies on title matching to integrate all the different feeds. This might seem simple, but to do this we need to use a base list of films. Our base is taken from EDI, which does a great job for 99% of the time - however often tiles that are played for one day specials, film festivals, etc. will not appear on EDI as they do not have an official release date. Without these records in our database, we cannot automatically pick up the availability information; and just as importantly, we cannot provide data to the industry on many 'unavailable' tiles that may be in demand from audiences. So our top priority right now is the integration of a large amount of extra film titles - around 70,000 - that will boost our film records and hopefully give some more insight into audience demand.
Other big projects in the near future include data dissemination for the industry, as well as the development of mobile phone applications and text versions for outdoor advertising. Another big benefit of rounding out our first 6 months is that we are now completely geared up to take advertising. The past 6 months has given us some good information on who is using the site, and with around 400,000 visits a month and sitting at #11 on ComScore, we're hoping FindAnyFilm.com will play a part in media campaigns for many of the releases in the coming months.
